Professional Kitchen Trends in Decorating for 2015

Subtle, greyish walls and muted colored countertops, high end beverage centers, seaswept wood and natural woood appliances in burnt umber, teal and other bright retro colors for contrast are the hottest design trends in kitchen remodeling, according to trend forecasters.

Check out those these new, updated looks:

• Darker Shades of greys. Stark white kitchens have been the popular, but are waning.
A lot of designers are making things more unqiue by using greys, taupey-beige and “greige,” a combo of the 2), according to the NKB Association’s Style Report. These neutral look can be a new warm classic and are great backdrop for brighter, standout colors.

Get this kitchen design look without any real remodeling. One of the simpler ways to give your kitchen remodeling plan a chic vibe is to paint the walls, backsplash or cabinets a neutral shade of grey. Get wild with a metallic grey.

But you must do the right way , or grey can end up giving your kitchen a sad, cold industrial look. Worse yet, you might end up with a 1980s post modern look. Think Beetlegeuse!
\1 manner in order to warm things up is to group grey with natural woody tones or vibrant accent colors such as poppy, tangerine or yellow. And be sure to choose a semi-gloss paint, which is the smart finish for a kitchen because it’s easy to clean.

Kitchen Remodel – Testimonial

When Morningside resident Connie Casavant wanted the kitchen remodeled in her bungalow, she turned to Earl Miller Construction of North Sioux City.

“I had read write-ups about Earl Miller Construction in the paper and I had friends who had used Earl Miller. I got a response when I called and Earl Miller would get back to me to talk to me,” said Casavant. “It was the same with the workers. It was nice.”

Casavant wanted her kitchen to be more open, so Earl Miller Construction with Terry Northrup as project manager removed a wall and put in a new header. A built-in china hutch and closet was removed to create a dining area that was more livable.

They also installed all new kitchen cabinets from House of Kitchens, LTD, new DuraCeramic flooring by Congoleum which extended into the newly created dining area, a custom backsplash, canned and pendant lights, and new GE appliances from Kollman Appliance. In addition, they moved the kitchen sink so it faced the dining room, put an air switch on the garbage disposal to prevent electrocution, and put plug-ins inside cabinets for a TV and a radio. The electrical work was performed by Vakulskas Electric.

Casavant got inspiration for her kitchen remodel from a Better Homes & Gardens magazine and Terry advised her along the way.

“He really helped me. I showed him the picture and he did what I asked. He also helped with the DuraCeramic flooring and the carpet.”

The crew, which also included Steve Leonard and Nick Korleski, finished at the same time every day, making it easy for Casavant to make plans to be out of the way.

“They were really great,” she said. “I was apprehensive at first because I was here by myself, but Earl assured me his crew would be polite, and they were. If I have another project, I would ask to have them back.”

DIY Kitchen Makeover

DIY Kitchen Makeover

These are some simple tips in which home owners can consider the next time they want to redecorate their kitchen

1 Use quality materials.
Top-quality drawer slides and hinges mean cabinet doors will stay closed and drawers won’t stick. Stay away from drawers that are stapled together or made of particleboard. For cabinet interiors, wood veneer is more durable than melamine, laminate, MDF or particleboard.

2 Determine cabinet heights.
If you have eight-foot ceilings, choose cabinets that go to the ceiling. They offer more storage, enabling you to use extra wall space for artwork or open shelves. If your ceilings are higher than eight feet, leave 15 to 18 inches above the cabinets.

3 Decide whether to paint or stain.
Though stained-wood cabinetry is forgiving, most finishes date quickly and aren’t easily altered. Brush-painted cabinets can lend a unique personality.

4 Select an elegant countertop.
White Carrara marble (honed or acid washed and sealed) and stained wood add elegance and warmth. We also like honed Kirkstone slate, soapstone and Wiarton limestone, and plastic laminate with a wood edge for a sophisticated look.

5 Install an island that works.
Beware of placing a bulky cube in the middle of the room. We like islands that have an open, airy look. Ideally, an island should be unencumbered by appliances, but if you want it to house a dishwasher-sink combo or a cooktop, try to maintain the light look of a leggy harvest table.

2015 Tips for Kitchen Remodeling on a tight Budget

Another Christmas season has passed by, and along with it the extended cooking and baking sessions. The many days spent using all kitchen appliances and every inch of counterspace had a potential highlight more lasting than a home cooked meal: When consumers really use their kitchens, theydiscover what does and doesn’t work.

kitchen cabinets

A smoothly functioning kitchen has space for everything to be stored away, within reach. Can you achieve that with your current cabinets? If so, Flynn suggests keeping them and just replacing or refinishing the doors.
“Cabinetry installation adds a lot to a budget,” he says, “so saving by simply reusing what you’ve got can be a massive help.”
If your cabinet doors are stained wood, consider painting them. Then change the hardware. Drawer pulls and cabinet door handles “can make or break the look of the space,” says Jimmy Meyers, of the Boston-based design firm Hearth.
If you do need to add or replace cabinets, Meyers suggests having them custom-made. It can be expensive, but they are worth the investment, she says. “You’ll get well-made pieces, built to your needs, that will last through time, kids and tons of use.”
Rather than adding cabinets with doors, she suggests installing drawers.
Painting kitchen walls can be “a quick, inexpensive solution to a kitchen remodel,” Kleinhelter says, and “any color can work.” But she advises clients that kitchen decor “should work with the rest of the house.” Bring in colors that appear in nearby rooms or stick to a neutral palette.
If you’re trying to update your kitchen’s look, Meyers says “there’s been a shift from the once-ubiquitous all-white kitchen toward gray-painted cabinets, and we’ve found ourselves experimenting with color.”
Homeowners are also getting more creative and saving money with materials such as concrete. Concrete tile is “an inexpensive material that comes in an incredible array of colors and patterns,” Meyers says.

Do Your Own Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

Do Your Own Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

The better news is kitchen cabinet refacing does not have to be a large or daunting project.  In fact, most of the time, refacing your kitchen cabinet is something that you can do yourself.  If you just follow these simple hints, you should be able to take on your kitchen cabinet makeover without any problems!

As you take the doors off of your kitchen cabinets, you will want to make sure to label them.  This will save you a lot of time later, after the doors have been refinished and you won’t have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out which door goes to which cabinet.  Take care that you do not accidentally paint or finish over your markings until the door has been reattached to the cabinet!

Before you get all hung over with your stripping material, make sure that you clean your cabinets completely-top to bottom, inside and out.  Use a strong cleaner because dust and residue that build up over a long period of time can be hard to remove, and even though we all like to think that we clean our cabinets thoroughly, the truth is that we also adjust to the look of dust and residue as it coats our cabinets, so what looks clean to us might not be very clean at all!  Don’t forget to wear rubber gloves as you clean the cabinets.

Even though it is not required that you take the cabinets off of the walls during your kitchen cabinet makeover it is a good idea.  Kitchen cabinet refacing is far more difficult if the cabinets are still attached to the walls.  After all-would you rather be perched precariously on a step stool or ladder and trying not to drip stripping chemicals and refinishing chemicals all over yourself or would you rather be able to stand over the cabinets as you perform these tasks and make sure that they are thoroughly taken care of?

When you are shopping for a cabinet refinishing stripper choose a stripping chemical that works with the type of finish that is currently on your cabinet.  The salesperson at your home improvement or hardware store will be able to help you figure out which type of finish is currently on your cabinets if you do not already know.

Finally, when you work on a kitchen cabinet makeover, it is very important to work slowly and to pay attention to the little details.  Fix any nicks or scratches before doing your kitchen cabinet refacing.  Make sure that the new finish is applied evenly and thoroughly.  It is always better to be slow and steady than it is to rush through your kitchen cabinet makeover and, only after you have put all of your cabinets back in place do you notice all of the mistakes that were made!

Fitted Kitchens

Fitted Kitchens

The purchase of a fitted kitchen as never been easier thanks to the wide range of stockists who supply lots of different styles and varieties of bespoke fitted kitchens. Top tips for choosing your preferred style include deciding which particular style that you are looking for by considering what kind of image you are going for. You might want to have something similar to your family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues. A particular style may be quite popular at the moment based on current fashion.

Perhaps you are thinking of renting out your home? If so, the style that you choose might be dependent on the type of tenants that are likely to rent your property. It might be a good idea to choose a subtle, generic type of fitted kitchen to allow for your new tenant’s potential varying range of tastes. What I am saying is that it would limit your potential market to force a very niche taste on your prospective tenants.

Going for that all white look may be the safe option when renting out your property but some property developers even decide to go niche to attract that niche couple of family who might just fall in love with your property and decide to sign the lease there and then. But this is always a high risk strategy. However, if you did manage to find those tenants who were on your wavelength in terms of home decor then you’d be able to reflect this distinguished look in the proposed rent. This means that you could charge slighter more per calendar month because you managed to drop on tenants who like what you have achieved.

However, it would be accurate to argue that many property developers and buy to let landlords tend to go for the quicker turnaround, generic look and feel of overall property decor and fitted kitchen look and feel.

It can be a very exciting time when you decide to purchase a brand new fitted kitchen. Adding that fresh look to your property can also increase the resale value of your property. It is always worth checking out the style of the rest of your home to ascertain the overall look and feel that you are going for with your home. So what are your own personal tastes? Do you like antiques? Dark wood? Lighter wood? Or perhaps a contemporary brushed and polished aluminium finish for that modern look and feel? Or that more traditional antique look? The choice is yours!

So if fitted kitchen is for a property that you live in and not for a property that you are developing to rent out then you should choose exactly what your personal tastes dictates. Everyone is different and having a home is all about creating your very own sanctuary and feeling comfortable and at home in your own surrounding. The chances are that, unless the do like to change your kitchen very often, you will be living with your choice for some time to come so choose wisely and pick a fitted kitchen that you’ll love!
